The church of Jesus Christ has always faced issues requiring that it take a stand. Among many, Riverside Baptist Church considers the following issues to require a positional statement.
1. The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and has been preserved infallible for the English-speaking world in what is commonly called “The Authorized Version of the King James’ Bible.”
2. Riverside Baptist Church is an independent and “fundamental” Baptist church. By independent is meant that the church holds no membership in any organization, ecclesiastical denomination, ecumenical council, church convention or fellowship. The church is free of outside control.
The church is “fundamental” in that it believes that the Bible is basic, primary, foundational, i.e., fundamental, for faith and practice. Theologically, “whatever the Bible says is so.” (Bob Jones, Sr.).
By Baptist is meant that the church adheres to distinctive Baptist principles. These principles distinguish Baptist churches from other so-called churches and religious orders.
3. Riverside does not engage in ecumenical activities that are designed to obliterate distinctives and produce a non-Biblical union of all persuasions.
4. Neither does the church endorse the Charismatic Movement that elevates experience over doctrine and seeks an ecumenical end.
5. The modern “contemporary” church is an attempt to win followers primarily by the use of entertainment and non-offensive (non-Biblical) terminologies. It brings the culture of the world into the church and sanctifies it for worship. Riverside Baptist Church is not a “contemporary” church.
